Post-Purchase Email Flow Examples (Klaviyo)

Updated 2026-10-15

The second order is the hardest one to win, and the post-purchase flow is where you win it. Here's the structure we build.

Setup

  • Trigger: Placed Order, with a conditional split for first-time vs. repeat customers.
  • Later steps can key off Fulfilled Order or delivery events if your shipping app sends them.
  • Exit: refunded or cancelled orders.

The sequence (first-time buyers)

  1. Immediately: thank you and what happens next. Shipping timeline, how to track, who to contact. It cuts "where's my order?" tickets.
  2. About a day after fulfillment: how to get the most out of it. Three tips on use or care, or a short guide. This is when you prevent returns.
  3. About 7 days after delivery: review request. One click to a star rating, sent once they've had time to use it.
  4. 14–21 days: cross-sell. Complementary products, chosen by a rule (what's usually bought together) or Klaviyo's recommendations.
  5. Replenishment (consumables only): a reminder shortly before the typical reorder date. Calculate it from your own order data: the median days between first and second orders for that product.

Repeat buyers

Skip the basics. Thank them as a returning customer, give early access to new products, and mention a loyalty program if you have one.

Copy rules

Real product photos. One call to action per email. Quote reviews only from your review platform. Don't push a cross-sell in the same email as a review request.
